Like all public buildings and spaces, Somerset House has a number of security measures in place for the protection of our visitors, residents and staff. These measures include procedures to deal with events should an incident actually happen.
Specialist advice
As a matter of course, our security team are in regular contact with specialist government security agencies who provide regular briefings to us as well as specialist advice and recommendations about how we can enhance our security across the site. In addition, we work closely with the emergency services to ensure that we are fully prepared to deal with any potential incidents on site.
Enhanced safety & bag checks
To make your visit as safe, secure and enjoyable as possible we have enhanced our security which includes more staff and the introduction of random bag checks across our site.
If at all possible please do not bring large bags with you as these are likely to be searched and any bags which are larger than plane cabin hand luggage size will not be allowed on site. We do not have a cloakroom. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
Regular reviews
We work hard to protect the safety and security of our visitors, artists, residents and staff and we will be continually reviewing the measures we have in place as appropriate and in line with relevant direction from the security services.
The safety and security of our visitors, artists, residents and staff is a top priority for us at Somerset House.
SAFER SPACE
All visitors must abide by our Safer Space policy and respect other visitors.
If you are attending an event at Somerset House and feel this policy is not being adhered to by any attendee, artist, staff member or contractor, you can speak to any member of event staff who will contact the Duty Manager, who will raise it to the People & Culture Team to investigate, or if you want to raise it directly you can do so via speakup@somersethouse.org.uk or you can use our Safer Space Reporting page.
You can find our Safeguarding policy here.
